BUNNERONG STRIKE?
Men May Refuse Shift Work Order
(Rec. 11.20 a.m.) SYDNEY, September 10. Another Stoppage which would cut off Sydney’s industrial and domestic electricity supplies is threatened at Bunnerong powerhouse, where the County Council has instructed its employees to begin shift work from 11 p.m. to-morrow. The eight unions involved have not yet discussed the order, but a prominent leader said he
believed they would refuse shift- work under any conditions. It was the men’s refusal to work shift work which precipitated two Bunnerong strikes last year. . The County Council’s action follows a judgment ‘given last, week by Mr Justice O’Mara. who rejected the union proposals ns “ novel, unprecedented, and impracticable,” and held that a management roster was convenient and widely adopted in industry,.
