The Government steamer Matai and the trawlers Waiho and Waima which she is escorting from Auckland to Sydney were about 470 miles west of Cape Maria Van Diemen at 6 o'clock on Sunday evening, and steaming in fine weather with a light wind (reports the 1 New Zealand Herald’). The three vessels left the Hauraki Gulf early oil Thursday afternoon. The master of the (Matai, Captain AV. It. Webling, has advised that the trawlers are averaging eight knots and faring particularly well.
