ATOMIC POWER
Will Be Harnessed Within One Year Rec. I I a.m.) LONDON, September 2. The chief of the Nobel Institute for Physics, Professor Nanne Siegbahn, quoting a report from the director of the Oakbridge (Tennessee) research station, said atomic power would be harnessed by American industry within a year, says the ‘ Daily Express ’ Stockholm correspondent. Professor Siegbahn added that the first plant—an atomicdriven steam turbine —would produce electricity in a huge powerhouse at Oakbridge. The experiments had convinced American scientists that atomic power was as cheap as power from oil or coal.
