COMBATING JAP. BLACK MARKETEERS GOLD, PEARLS, AND DRUGS FOUND (Rec. 1.30 p.m.)- TOKIO, Sept. 2. Australian troops swooped down on a moving ship off the Japanese coast and carried out one of the biggest coups of the British Commonwealth Occupation Force against black\ marketeers in Japan, says the first sis months* report from 8.C.0.F. headquarters at ‘Kure. The Australians discovered gold pearls, and half a ton of drugs, which were being smuggled out of the country. Naval, army, and air patrols are combining to defeat attempts to smuggle Koreans into Japan. About 6 000 have already been arrested on board ship or in land hideouts. Troops are also raiding all known black market SP The report, issued by the War Office, says the force found huge arms arsenals throughout the occupation area. Nine thousand tons of ammunition and -high explosives was destroyed by burning. Sixteen thousand tons -of explosives and most of 17,000 tons of poison gas found have been towed out and dumped in the Pacific Ocean.
