There was no political significance attached to the Dutch rejection of the request by the New Zealand Government to charter the Dutch ships held up. in - AustraHa.ii ports, said the Netherlands ViceConsul. The extreme dearth of Dutch tonnage made it impossible to comply with the request. Any suggestion that the rejection was. a form of reprisal taken because of the treatment of Dutch shipping in Brisbane, Sydney, and Melbourne, was completely unfounded, he said.—" Wellington Association message.
