RICCARTON PROSPECTS

SIGNAL OFFICER FOR GREAT AUTUMN WANTWOOD A POPULAR SELEOTION The Canterbury Jockey Club's Autumn Meeting will be concluded at Riccarton to-morrow. There has been a reduction in the strength of the fields which, however, will all be of handy size. ' , 1 _ Main interest will be centred in the Great Autumn Handicap, for which 10 horses will be carded. Of these Lancewing is also in the Waltham Handicap, and although a decision regarding his programme had not been arrived at today, he is likely to start in the big event. There was no final payment for the Challenge Stakes, and in consequence several of those carded will not be paraded. Likely starters are—Golden Souvenir, Blue Trout, Palm Bearer, Privilege, and Dawn Salute. The track will again be firm and under the win and place system the following horses should race well: — Peerswick Hurdles.—Prize Ring, Tatting, Matapan. Challenge Staikes. —Blue Trout, Golden Souvenir, Privilege. Yaldhurst Handicap. —Detain, Sir Bernard, Vulnerable. Ginicrack Handicaip.—Red Pickle, Koa Manu. Denary. FINAL GALLOPS. Although there were not many serious gallops at Riccarton yesterday, most of the horses engaged to-morrow were given useful work. The outside of the course proper was again made available. Lancewing and Royal Victor were companions over a mile in 1.44, and second half in 53, the former finishing in front. Golden Souvenir, Bruce, and Foxhaven went over the same ground in 1.43 2-5, the second half in 52, and they finished together. The first-named looks all the better after his race and will be a source of trouble to Blue Trout over the final stages of the Challenge Stakes. Privilege, joined by Spring Water at the half mile, ran five furlongs comfortably in 1.4 3-5, the last four in 51. Blue Trout was under a good hold in running five furlongs on the plough in 1.3 4-5, the last four in 50 Palm Bearer was given similar work over three furlongs on the grass. She has shown some improvement since her race on Monday and may take her place in the Challenge Stakes. Prize Ring was jumped _over four hurdles and gave a dashing display, and Olga's Choice shaped satisfactorily in a similar task. Da Vinci was earlier booked to contest the Great Autumn Handicap, but showed the effects of his hard race in the Great Easter Handicap and it was decided, on Tuesday, not to continue his engagement. His next racing will be at Hastings and a trip to Ellerslie in June is in view for him. ' Tatting will be ridden in to-morrow's hurdle race by K. Thomson, who has been engaged to ride the horse for the season. G. Ridgway will be substituted for Thomson on • Prince Dolomite. There will also be a new rider for Test Pilot, I. Walther having the mount.
