The election of office-bearers at the Dunedin Women's Institute Club resulted as follows :—President, Mrs Morrison ; vice-president, Mrs Judge; secretary, Mrs Martin; treasurer, Mrs McKenzie ; sales table, Mrs W. Butler ; convener hostesses, Mrs S. Butler and Mrs Mann; competitions supervisors, Mrs Lambie, Mrs Kewish; Press correspondent, Mrs Kewish. Mrs Morrison was appointed delegate to the Dominion conference. Mrs Begbie was appointed delegate and Mrs Cathro reporter to the Mid-Otago Federation meeting. Red Cross News. On Thursday the Junior Red Cross Committee and!. members of ,the Dunedin executive had the pleasure of entertaining Miss E. Hadfield, New Zealand director of Junior Red Cross, at afternoon tea in the University Club rooms. Miss Hadfield, who was introduced by the chairman, Mr C. V. Smith, gave a very interesting address, bringing new ideas to this important branch of Red Cross work. Miss Powley, in proposing a vote of thanks, expressed the appreciation of all on her appointment. V.A.D. Notes.—The attention of voluntary aids is drawn to the following notices:—There will be-.no first aid class on Easter Tuesday, April 23. The V.A.D. Guild will meet on Monday, April 29, at 7.30 p.m., in theguild room, Queen's Bulidings. 'Garments are cut out ready for sewing, and it is hoped that there will be a large attendance. The choir will meet for practice at 144 London street on Wednesday, May 1, at 7.30 p.m. The first basketball practice will be held at the Normal School Gymnasium ,on Thursday, May 2, at 8 p.m.- Further practices will take place every Thursday night from 7-8. Donald's home where the president, Mrs Cameron, welcomed the special speaker who bad) come to give a talk on- penicillin production, and use of this new drug were described in simple terms, while a survey of some of the marvellous recoveries brought about by its application showed that the importance of this medical discovery has been well proved. St. Kilda : Mrs Snell presided over a large attendance in Mrs Spero's home. The syllabus for 1946, specially arranged for the benefit of new members, was approved, after -which helpful hints and recipes were exchanged, andMrs and Miss Lymburn gave a demonstration of rug making from old! felt hats. -r . ...: North Dunedin: Five new members were welcomed at the April meeting when all took part in a keen discussion on ' Hungry Countries.' This was based on the Tecent lecture by Mr Dayus at the central meeting, when the speaker had shown clearly that even though there may be ample food in the world for all needs, there were very real obstacles, such as transport, finance, and human nature, that stood in the way of a proper distribution. All expressed a keen desire for maximum amounts of food to go from New Zealand as a result of a rigid economy J in our own diets, and at future meetings will exchange recipes based on elimination of waste, with special rcIference to bread. Forbury Park: A demonstration on belt making was given at Mrs Finnie's

home by Mrs Wright. A roll-call with ration recipes made an interesting addition to a successful evening. Caversham: Mrs Ross welcomed a large attendance, when three new members were enrolled l . •

Kaikorai: Mrs Spratt gave a demonstration of broach making, and displayed a collection of beautiful samples. - League of Mothers, Last week a combined meeting was held at Balclutha, when some 90 members from Dunedin joined with members from Milton, Stirling, and Balclutha. The morning was devoted to group meetings,- presided over by provincial officers. Various problems relating to particular branches of the work were discussed. At the close of the morning meeting over 100 members partook of lunch provided by the Balclutha branch. In the afternoon, Mrs D. Inglis,- president at Balclutha, welcomed the visitors and friends, and said that this was the first time a combined meeting had been held in South Otago. Floral spra'ys were presented to the provincial officers and visiting presidents. Mrs Inglis then introduced Mrs P. H. Jones, provincial president. In her reply, Mrs Jones said members should think of the work as something stretching; throughout the Dominion. The aims and objects were high, but simplicity was. one of the outstanding features of the meetings. Miss A. Macdougall, of St. Clair, gave a most interesting talk. A vote of thanks to Miss Macdougall, Mrs Jones, and Mrs Wedekind was voiced by Mrs Wood (Balclutha), and Mrs Robinson (Maori Hill) thanked the South Otago members for their hospitality. Items were rendered by members of Milton, Stirling, and Balclutha branches. ;.

Professor T. D. Adams gave a tails on ' Poetry ' to the Opoho branch, and Mrs H. M. Smith sang a solo. Mrs Roseveare presided. 4 • The Ravensbourne branch held its monthly meeting on Thursday, when Mrs Campbell presided. The speaker, Mrs Derek-Smith, gave a talk on ' Memories of Ulster.' A special programme of Irish songs was rendered by the choir, the soloists being Mesdames MoKenzie and Dawson. Letters were read from women's organisations in Great Britain expressing appreciation of food parcels.
