ROBIN JANSEN

«. . FIRST RECITAL TO-NIGHT Wherever Robin Jansen has appeared he has been acclaimed as possessing far greater virtuoso qualities than any other pianist of recent years, his brilliance and style frequently being compared with the magnificent verve and tremendous power of Paderewski, who also was an adherent of the Leschetisky method of pianism as interpreted by Jansen. Critics in Australia have likened him to a much earlier virtuoso pianist than Paderewski, the great Dr von Billow, and have said he presents the energy and the extraordinary genius of Beethoven himself. His style is sparkling and vivacious, his interpretations strikingly original and imbued with a deep poetic insight, and his technique is extraordinarily accurate and amazingly efficient. Writing of him in the ' Dominion,' Wellington, during his recent season in that city, Mr Harcus Plimmer said that he made a deep impression. He stated: "It was at once perceived that Mr Jansen in his approach to the quiet opening adagio sostenuto wan en rapport with the music. . his serenity of touch, his marked attention to accent, and tonal shading commanded the attention of his audience." To-night Jansen will play . a programme devoted to compositions by Chopin and Beethoven, including two of the Beethoven sonatas, the ' Appassionata ' and the ' Moonlight.' and several of the best-loved Chonin works, including the Ballade in A fiat (Opus 47). the Sonata in B flat minor, and the Grand Polonaise.
