STRAINED RELATIONS
BRITAIN AND ALBANIA (IRec. 11.30 a.m.) LONDON, April 15. After the British Government decided to recognise the Albanian Government the attitude of the latter seemed to change. Britain doubted whether the Albanians were any longer anxious to re-establish diplomatic relations, said Mr Hector McNeil, Foreign UnderSecretary, in a written reply in the House of Commons. Britain sought assurances before authorising the Minister-designate to take up' his post, he said. The Albanian Government's reply was unsatistfactory-, and Britain therefore informed the Albanian Government that it felt unable to authorise the Minister to take up his post in the present circumstances, and added that it was not prepared to receive an Albanian representative in London.
