SMITHFIELD STRIKE

DECISION TO CONTINUE (Rec; 10 a.m.) LONDON, April 15. After a meeting of the Smithfield Market strikers on April 13 it was decided to continue the strike. TROUBLE SPREADS After the Smithfield workers' decision to continue the strike, 100 Pioneer Corps soldiers arrived at Smithfield Market this morning amid ironical cheers from the strikers. The market's organiser appealed to the authorities, and the troops did not move provisions, at least before the afternoon. As more troop carriers appeared, Smithfield Market meat workers ceased words, and as the A.S.C. lorries began taking away provisions, the cold storage workers joined the strikers. The strike leaders claim that the workers in London's other four meat depots have now decided to strike in sympathy. , This evening the Ministry of Labour issued a statement saying that the Meat Workers' Union spokesman will address the strikers to-morrow morning. ' The military, at the union's request, will not resume work at Smithfield pending the result of the meeting. The meat porters in the ' meantime will handle fresh meat as usual.
