ANOTHER MONTH YET CANADIAN BRANDS IN A FORTNIGHT English cigarettes, which were originally expected to be on sale in Dunediu to-day, will not now be available to the public until May 16. Shipping uncertainties have caused the delay in the marketing of the southern portion of the consignment, while another large oargo of Canadian cigarettes has also been hold up in the north. Dunedin's smokers will therefore have to wait a little longer to taste the delights of the muchdiscussed imported brands. Gold Flake and State Express cigarettes are on the Hororata, which is now discharging at Auckland and is not due at Port Chalmers until May 6. After they have been unloaded, another 10 days will elapse before the cigarettes have been cleared and distributed to the retailers. Canadian cigarettes are being brought by the Crystal Park, which is at present unloading in the North Island. She is due at Wellington this week and her southern cargo will be transhipped, but, owing to the uncertainties of shipping, it is unlikely that the Canadian brands will be on the local market for approximately a fortnight. The Canadian cigarettes are Henley and Parliament, and the former will retail at Is lljd for 20 and the latter at Is IOJd. Two brands of cigarette tobacco, Country Life and Log Cabin, are also expected shortly. State Express 555 cigarettes will retail at 2s 6d' for 25 and the Gold Flake at lid for 10. One large wholesaler this morn' ing denied that the supply of domestic brands manufactured by his company would be reduced in proportion to the number of imported cigarettes. So far as his company was concerned, the quantity to be placed on the market on May 15 would be the largest since the early war years.
