OBITUARY

MR E. J. TAYLOR The death occurred on Friday of Mr Edwin John Taylor, Mayor of West Harbour, at the age of 69 years. Mr Taylor was a well-known figure in tha West Harbour district for many years, and even after removing to live iu North-east Valley about a year ago he maintained a keen interest in the affairs of the district. , He came to New Zealand from Birmingham, England, in 1911 to join tha staff of Messrs A. and T. Burt Ltd., and has remained with that firm since, being appointed warehouse manager in 1922 He won the respect of all with whom he came into contact, and for 14 years was chairman of the Tube Association and occupied the chairmanship of the Plumbers and Merchants' Association for 12 years. Mr Taylor was elected to the mayoralty of tha West Harbour borough in May, 19*11. an office he retained until the time of his death. Prior to that he was a horough councillor for 10 years on two different occasions. He is survived by his wife and two sons.
