—Prime Minister Returns.— The Prirao Minister, the Rt ; Hon. P. Fraser, arrived back in Weliingtoa yesterday from Australia. Mr Fraser, accompanied by the secretary for External Affairs, Mr A. D. Mcintosh, and his private secretary, Mr W. O. Harvey arrived at Whenuapai at 3.30 p.m. oil Saturday. Ho stayed the night at Auckland and flew to' Papaparaumu yesterday, arriving there at noon and coming on to Wellington by car. —Lady Mountbatten's Visit Ends.— Concluding her visit to New Zealand, Lady Mountbatten, accompanied by members of her staff, arrived at Auckland from Hamilton yesterday afternoon. In the evening ehe entertained guests at dinner at the Grand Hotel, and left by flying hoat this morning for Sydney. Messrs P. G. Connolly. M.P., P. Neilson, M.P., and R. Walls, M.P., left this morning for Wellington. On Friday evening, members of the staff of the Housing Department met to say farewell to Mr I. F. Collins, who has resigned from the service to engage in private enterprise. Mr J. V. Jebson conveyed tho good wishes of the staff to Mr Collins, and on their behalf presented him with an attache case Mr V. Raines, who has been appointed licensing authority for the No. 3 Transport District, left to-day for Christchurch to take up his duties there. Dr C. E. Hercus. dean of the Otago Medical School, will sail from New Zealand on the steamship Durango, leaving Napier on April 29, to attend a Commonwealth Scientific Conference in London, followed by an official conference. He will he one of three New Zealand representatives to the series of scientific conferences. He will b* away from New Zealand at least three months. Dr J. L. Dimoud, who, after serving with the R.A.M.C. has heen the guest of Mrs E. Aslin, Littlebourne road, will leave to-morrow to take up an appointment on the visiting medical staff of the Wellington Public Hospital. The resignation of Mr A. E. Ford. manager and engineer of the Auckland Transport Board for 24 years, was accepted with regret at a meeting of the board this morning. Mr Ford resigned because of ill health.—Press Association. Mr J. E. Menzies, of Invercargill, has been appointed engineer to the Tuapeka County Council. Mr Menzies has held the .positions of county engineer to the Kairanga County at Palmerston North, Vincent County, Clyde,* and the Waimea County, at Nelson, aud has also been on the staff of the Palmerston North Borough Council and the Public Works Department. On a short visit to New Zealand, Brigadier W. G. Gentry, D. 8.0., 0.8. E., arrived at Auckland from Sydney by flying boat on Saturday. Brigadier Gentry is New Zealand representative on tne Joint Chiefs of Stag in* Australia, a body which is charged with the planning of the British Commonwealth Occupation Force in Japan. He declined to make any comment on the occupation force. Brigadier Gentry flew to Wellington yesterday. He expects to return to Australia in about a week.
