PRESIDENTIAL ADDRESSES.

TO THE EDITOR. Sir.—At the present time presidents of the Employers' Federation, chambers of commerce, etc.. are giving their members advice on the way this country should be run. As an ordinary man in the street, I should like to ask where these wise men. were during the years 1930 to 1935, when we had a Government in power whose only idea to alleviate the position was .*° cu * wages and salaries, dispense with employees, and institute labour camps, thereby making the position much worse. During those years we had an abundance of material, an army of skilled tradesmen calling out for work, and houses could have been built for a third less cost. Why did these wise men not advise the then Government to start a housing scheme instead of having these skilled men on that souldestroying job grubbing grass off our roads? It seems strange these presidents should be so free with their advice now, when the workers seem to be well fed, well dressed, and have two or three jobs to choose from.—l am, etc., E. C. Fraser.
