"BRITAIN'S HANDS CLEAN"

IMMEDIATE DISCUSSION SOUGHT DIVERGENT GREEK OPINION Otec. 10.35 a.m.) LONDON, Jan. 24. Unless there is a last-minute hitch the Security Council will meet to-morrow afternoon to discuss whether and Russo-Ukrainian complaints against Britain, also the Persian dispute, should be dealt with immediately, says the 'Evening News.' Mr Bevin will urge immediate discussion, taking the view that Britain's hands are clean and th,at the shelving of discussion would have a deplorable effect on world opinion. Yielding to insistent demands of the Greek Right wing and Centre political groups, M. Sofoulis agreed to convoke a Foreign Aifairs Commission, composed of the former Prime Ministers to discuss the question of British troops in Greece, reports the Associated Press correspondent at Athens. A marked divergence of views between the Left and the Right on the presence i of British troops is becoming more apparent: The' former Premier, M. Papandreou, pointed out that the troops were in Greece by agreement made at Caserta in September, 1944, approved by the Elas Kkf, and Earn. However, Earn now is making representations flagrantly opposed to the Sofoulis Government and definitely hostile to Britain. Supporting this propaganda, the Earn majority on the General Confederation of Labour has issued a proclamation calling on all workers to lead the people's cause against the Fascists, who are trying to establish by force a Fascist dictatorship. Meanwhile several former Premiers, M. Venizelos, M. Papandreou, M. Plastiras, M. Cannellopoulos, and M. Voulgaris have cabled London outlining reasons rendering the presence of British troops necessary.
