OBITUARY
MR J. R. MARKS The death has occurred at Reniuera, Auckland, of Mr John Reuben Marks, aged 57. Mr Marks, who was born in Dunedin, joined, the Public Works Department in 1905, and after working in Marlborough and Taranaki, was appointed resident engineer at Mount Ida in 1918. In .1923 he became district engineer in Dunedin. and later he was stationed at Alexandra, where he had much to do with the development of irrigation. He retired in 1927 to commence a private practice as consulting engineer in Auckland, ' specialising in cement and concrete., Mr Marks contributed many papers on concrete to the New Zealand Institute of Engineers, and also published pamphlets. He was chairman of the Auckland branch, and a member of the council. He is survived by his' wife.
