The secretary (Mr J. Benton) reported to the meeting of the Otago Harbour Board last night that the Glenogle had completed her loading at Port Chalmers, and had sailed for London on December 15. Her cargo included 21,000 bales of wool._ This shipment of wool was the third largest made from the port of Otago, the largest being that by the Verdun on March 1, 1919 (22,921 bales), and the second largest that by the Antar on November 16, 1945 (21,424 bales). Police cars were busy last night collecting personnel to form a hurried court. This followed the arrest of a seaman, Sid Sigund Wiberg, who was absent Without leave from his ship, the Sam Spring. He appeared before Mr A. J. Haub, J.P., and was remanded to appear at Lyttelton at 6 p.m. to-night. The Sam Spring sails from there at 7 p.m. for overseas. The Housing Department is expected to vacate its offices in Lower High street by the middle of next month for more commodious accommodation in the Garrison Hall. The department will occupy portion of the building, where faniy extensive interior renovations are at present being carried out.

An Association message from Christchurch reports that the new State housing scheme in Shirley will provide an area for 500 houses. The work on the 130 acres' will not start for some months, as engineering plans have to be drawn up and the whole area has to be surveyed. The area is similar in size to the Riccarton subdivision, which "is the largest in the city, and also contains 500 houses. Workmen at present engaged in the Corporation electrical stores in Cumberland street were the cause of two accidental false alarms for the City Fire Brigade yesterday and this morning. The first was at 3.4 p.m. yesterday and the second at 8.18 this morning.
