FIRST NATIONALISED PIT IN BRITAIN ABSENTEEISM THE CAUSE (Rec. 11.50 a.m.) '. LONDON, January 23. Xhe'first pit in England to be nationalised, the Clifton Colliery at Nottingham,' which the Government took over three years ago, may close' down because of absenteeism, says the ' Evening News.' The Production Committee, in appealing to miners, said the colliery must make a reasonable profit or close down whether nationalised or not.
