FREE RAILWAY TRAVEL
28-DAY PERIOD MOTHERS AND WIDOWS OF DECEASED SERVICEMEN (P.A.) WELLINGTON, Jan. 23. The Government had approved of the issue of free railway warrants to the widows of servicemen and to the mothers of deceased unmarried servicemen who were either killed or had died on service overseas, stated the Minister of Defence, Mr Jones, this evening. The period of free travel granted is of 28 days' duration, and the privilege must be availed or within 12 months, commencing from February 1 next. Application for rail travel warrants in respect of deceased members of the 2nd N.Z.E.F. is to he made in writing to the Director of Base Records ; P.O. Box 3,044, Wellington. Applications in respect of deceased navy personnel or airmen should be directed to the Naval Secretary or the Air Secretary, Wellington, as*the case may be.' When writing 'to the service department concerned the applicant should state the service number and the full name of the late serviceman, her own full name and address, andithe date from which it is desired that the railway warrant should commence. Application should be made not later than 14 days or earlier than one month prior to the date from which it is desired that,the free railway privilege should commence.
The warrant will be strictly limited to a continuous and specified period of 28 days. ,
