TRUMAN FLIES TO VISIT MOTHER
FLIGHT HAZARDS ROUSE COMMENT INDEPENDENCE (.Missouri), December 26, President Truman arrived here on Christmas night after a hazardous wintry flight from Washington. The leaden skies showered sleet and rain against the plane, which had a very rough trip. President Truman has never missed Christmas dinner for the past 27 years at the home of his 93-year-old mother, Mrs Martha Truman. The ‘ New York Times.’ criticising the flight, points out that this i- not the time to be careless, ft is the time for the considered judgment of essential values in a precarious moment of history. “No one begrudges President Truman a holiday at home or a rest from tbe burdens of office, hut there is a point at which Mr Truman becomes President and shoulders the re. sponsibilitv which he ought not to set aside,” the paper comments
