MISHAPS AT ELLERSLIE
TWO JOCKEYS IN HOSPITAL As a result of falls during the opening day of the Auckland Racing Club’s Summer Meeting at Ellerslie, two apprentice jockeys, one of whom is in a serious condition, suffered injuries which necessitated their being admitted to the Auckland Hospital. They were William Anderson, aged 24, single, of Ellerslie, and John Bagby, aged 17, son of Mrs A. Bagby, of Ellershe.
The rider of Hunting Mac in the Grafton Hurdles, the second race on the programme, Anderson was thrown heavily on to the track when his mount came to grief at the hurdle in ' front of the members’ stand. He suffered concussion, and his condition is reported to be serious. The horse did not suffer any ill effects. Bagby fell from his mount, Balancer? in the 'Nursery Handicap, the seventh race of the day. On being admitted to the hospital, ho was found to be suffering from shock and injuries to the hack and abdomen. His condition is not .regarded as serious.
