MERRY CHRISTMAS!

[Written by " X.Y.," for the ' Evening Star.'] A merry Christmas to you all, Good readers of ti'e ' Star.' I wish you well, in general. And in particular. The world's askew; There's lots to do Before it straightens out; But raise your chin! There's something in A heart that's gay and stout. Well, any way, the war is won, And Peace —in part—appears, The nearest to a glimpse of sun For half-a-dozen years. This cosmic pot Is still too hot; It's still a-simmering; But let it be. Just hope and see What 'Forty-six will bring. Don't grumble, grizzle, growl, or croak (No reason why you should). Just think on swarms of other folk Whose lot is not so good. You have your share Of Christmas fare, While they, since things are scant, Must dress and feed On what they need. But not on what they want. So here's a Christmas wish for those Endearing folk at Home; May next December find their woes Completely overcome; And may they go Through Winter's snow And dark December's storm Serene and glad. Well fed, well clad, And adequately warm !
