CITY RATES
OVER 97 PER CENT. COLLECTED Yesterday was the last day for the payment of city rates without incurring a 10 per cent, penalty, and when tlie Town Hall closed for the day the amount paid was £367,909, which represented 97.4 per cent, of the total of. £377,768 to be collected. This left a balance of £9,859, to which the penalty will have to be added. Last year the rate struck amounted to £360,920, and 97.2 per cent, was paid before the penalty date.
