SAWYERS BAY PETITION.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir.—ln Tuesday’s ‘ Star ’ there was included, in the report of the Port Chalmers Council meeting, a statement that 96 per cent, of tiie Sawyers Bay residents were in favour of amalgamation with the Port Chalmers Borough. This is contrary to fact. In the first place, the petition had not been taken round before the statement was made, so that.it is difficult to understand from where that precise figure 96 was derived. In the second place, T have spoken to a large number of Sawyers Bay residents on this matter, and of tlio.se I have contacted the majority agree that steps should bo taken to further the interests of Sawyers Bay, and realise that the desired increase in amenities will naturally cause an increase in rates, but they are of the opinion that Port Chalmers has nothing to offer Sawyers Bay excepting an increase in rates.—T am, etc., Ratepayer, Sawyers Bay. December 9.
