TEN YEARS' CIVIL WAR!
GHINESE COMMUNISTS PREPARING ALTERNATIVE TO FAILURE OF NEGOTIATIONS (Itec. 1 p.m.) CHUNGKING, November 7. Reports from Yenan staje that the Communists are proceeding with plans for an all-out civil war against the Central Government if the current negotiations with Chungking fail, says the Associated Press correspondent. The Communists envisage a 10 years' war, which they are confident they can win. ' The Communist leaders hope that civil war will be unnecessary, and that a settlement will give them the opportunity of attaining power by political means. They also hope.to stave off a fully-fledged civil war by inflicting a few' severe defeats on the Government forces, thereby inducing Chiang's Government to make concessions. General Tang En-po ; commander of the Nationalist, troops in the ShanghaiNanking area, announced that the Communists were besieging Yen Cheng, 160 miles north-east of Shanghai. It is pointed out that Yen Cheng would be vital to the Communists if they hope to consolidate control over North Kiangsu province.
