Tlie French Communist leader, Maurice Thorez, addressing the party’s Central Committee, condemned any idea of a western bloc, which he said would mean a return to the spirit of Munich. . „ . . He listed other main points of the French Communist foreign- policy: First, collective security as a means for the maintenance of peace; secondly, loyal collaboration with Britain, America, and Russia; thirdly, strict application of the. clauses of France’s alliance with Russia; fourthly, tlie immediate severance of- relations, ■with General Franco’s Government (General de Gaulle publicly .announced that he favoured a western bloc).
