TEMPORARY COMMITTEE
TO ASSIST TRUSTEESHIP COUNCIL PROPOSAL OPPOSED BY RUSSIA (ltec. 11.5 a.m.) LONDON, Oct. 18. The Executive Committee of the United Nations Preparatory Commission adopted by seven votes to three the sub-committee’s report recommending the establishment of a temporary committee to assist in the work of the Trusteeship Council to be created under the terms of the United Nations Charter. M. Gromyko said Russia considered it undesirable to create a committee, as the. Charter specifically stated that the council should deal with all matters relating to trusteeship. The time was not ripe for such a committee, as there were no trnsteeship territories, and the General Assembly should discuss fully such proposals and establish a Trusteeship Council as soon as possible. The British and American delegates supported the establishment of a temporary committee on the ground that it would facilitate the council’s work.
