FINAL GALLOPS

TRENTHAM AND RANGIORA TRIALS (Special.) CHRISTCHUIRCH, Oct. 18. Both the trial grass and plough tracks were open for galloping at Riccarton to-day, and provided fast going. On the plough Montezuma ran six furlongs in 1.17 3-5 and Burberry went over the same ground in 1.16. Contemptuous and Philary ran five furlongs in 1.3 4-5. Nurnie sprinted half a mile in 50. It has not yet been decided which race he will contest at Rangiora, but the o'pen sprint will probably be selected.

Boolamskee and Racket were companions over a strong seven-furlong task in 1.35, the last four in 52 2-5.. Boolamskee looks in better order than when he won over a mile and three furlongs at Wingatui. Palfrey ran home three furlongs in 38 and Lady Wellbeck took 37 1-5. The latter will be riden by D. Dawson in the high-weight event at Rangiora, and is likely to be well supported. Koa Mann ran five furlongs in 1.3, the last four in 50 2-5.

Olga’s Choice and Pandosto executed a six-furlong task in 1.15 2-5, the first three in 38 2-5. Air Lord and Salmi strode over five furlongs in 1.4, Air Lord making the better showing. Good Friend ran five furlongs in 1.5 without being ridden out. On the grass Lord Advocate was again clear of Bittersweet over the concluding stages of six furlongs in 1.17 1- the last four in 51. Lord Advocate is handily placed in the Wainui Handicap at Trentham, and with a track likely to suit him he makes a strong appeal over the mile journey. Irish Note was in front of Belle Leonne after covering five furlongs in 1.3, the last four in 49 2-5. Avon Bridge finished slightly in front of Double Cross at the end of six furlongs in 1.17 4-5. Avonbridge is a much-improved galloper, and may surprise at Rangiora. Lady Fane and Pedantic were companions over an easy half-mile in 52 2- Lady Fane accompanied Boolamskee north this evening,- and will be an interesting candidate for the Wellesley Stakes. Pedantic, trained at Greymouth by A. G. Woods. is to race at Rangiora. Tan Lady beat Trench Law over half a mile in 50 4-5. Riding engagements made for South Island horses at Trentham include:—A. Messervy: Confusion. Bonnv Flight, Tavern Light. C. T. Wilsoh: Kevin, Pensacola. Beau Cheval, Blue Trout, Thornbridge, Sanskrit. C, H. Mackie: Competitor. Lakhnau. Lord Advocate.
