WASHINGTON". October 17. l)r D. R. Oppenhbimer, one of the makers of the atomic bomb, giving evidence before the Senate Committee, said it was possible for one raid to destroy 40,000,000 Americans in congested areas. Dill. J. Curtis, another atomic scientist, said the problems generated by the bomb's discovery were' so great all over the world that one false move in international diplomacy might mean the virtual destruction of the United States. Both scientists urged the control of the bomb by a world organisation.
