POLICE COURT

SATURDAY, APRIL 28. (Before Mr J. R. Bartholomew, S.M.) ARRESTED AFTER CHASE, John Dennis Murphy, aged 18, of Timaru, Raymond Douglas Johnston, aged 18, oi Wellington, and David Warren Hodgkinson, aged 19, of Fairfield, were charged that, on April 26 at Outram, they broke and entered the counting house of Henry William Stewart and stole a cash register,, about £2 in money, petrol coupons, oil, and petrol, to the total value of £29 18s 2id. Chief-detective T. Y. Hall said that the men had been arrested yesterday after a chase in Central Otago. and he asked for a remand until May 4 to enable certain other matters to be investigated. The accused were remanded in custody until the date mentioned. ASSAULT ALLEGED. Two young men were before the court on two charges of assault. They were Leonard Alfred Lowe, a labourer, aged 21, and Ronald Poti'ki Lowe, a labourer, aged 20, and the charges related to alleged assaults upon George Alfred Dandy and Alfred Charles Henry W'ilkinson. Ronald Potiki L'owe was further charged with the theft of a pair of spectacles valued at £4, the property of the complainant- Dandy. Senior-sergeant A. Johnston, said that the two men had come into town yesterday, and had had some drink,

and got into trouble. One of the assaulted men was still in hospital and unable to appear. Mr Johnston asked for .a remand until May 1, and this was granted, bail being allowed in the sum of £20,. with one surety of £2O, in each case.
