PETAIN IN PARIS
TRIAL TO BE HELD NEXT MONTH
PARIS, April 27
Marshal Petain has arrived in Paris, and is being detained in Fort Montrouge.
The French News Agency anounccd that Marshal Petain entered France at 8 p.m., and was. immediately arrested. The military governor of Paris, General Koenig, met Marshal Petain at frontier. Marshal Petain extended his* hand, which General Koenig pointedly refused to shake.
The public prosecutor, Andre Hornet, who will conduct the case against Marshal Petain, said the tri.il would begin on May 17, which was the date originally fixed. " His return to France makes it only necessary to take additional information from him. .Marshal Petain deserves death for his politics, and I shall demand the supreme penalty, but T shall ask the jury for clemency on the grounds of humanity He has reached an age where considerations of humanity should prevail."
