FINLAND AT WAR WITH GERMANY (Rec. 8 a.m.) LONDON, March 4. The Finnish Government has formally declared war on Germany,' states an official announcement from Helsinki. The announcement said the Government on March 1 had unanimously approved of a statement by the Premier, Dr Paasikivi, in which he recalled that the Germans had not fulfilled the Finnish demand to withdraw German troops from Finland by September'ls, 1944, under the Russian armistice terms. The Germans instead had opened enemv action against the Finns in the Gulf of Finland " Therefore a state of war has existed between Finland and Germany since September 15." the statement continues. The British United Press correspondent points out that the declaration date was March I—the last date for countries which want to be invited to the San Fransisco conference to declare war against Germany.
