ELIMINATING FUTURE THREATS (P.A.) CHRISTCHURCH. March 5. The Minister of Works, the Hon. R. Seniple, said this morning that another cut had been put in not far from th's surge chamber to relieve the pressure of water on the chamber. That cut was now functioning and assisting to lower the impounded water, and would remain there after tho Hooding trouble was over as a ; safety valve, so that Kaitangata would not be threatened again. The Kaitangata problem had got to be mastered. It was a formidable and tricky job, but-the land engulfed was worth saving.' Such a'task might take time and would tax the judgment; and skill of the engineers', but he was satisfied it could be done.
