LUFTWAFFE REAPPEARS . (ißec. 11.5 a.m.) RUGBY, Feb. 25. In weather that deteriorated during the day Air-Marshal Coningham/s tactical air forces got in 1,100 sorties, attacking concentrations of enemy troops and communications leading up to the battle front. For the first time in many days the German air force decided to fight ,it out on more than one occasion, and there was a series of dog fights, in which the enemy lost 21 planes and had a further six damaged. Twelve Canadian Spitfires took on 40 M.E. 109's over the Rheiner airfield, and shot down seven of the enemy without loss._ Seven Tempests, also over Rheiner, took on 15 Messersclimitts, destroying four and damaging another four for the loss of one Tempest. Seven attacks were made on the railways serving V-2 sites in Holland and a V-l site in Holland had 14 tons of bombs unloaded on .it. The claims for the day were: _ Destroyed or damaged, 39 locomotives, 160 rail cars, 18 barges, and 41 road vehicles.
