Conditions in Australia promised rain and a welcome relief from the long drought, said Sir Douglasi Mawson, the famous Antarctic explorer. In the Northern Hemisphere the record drought last year was broken by a wet summer, which held up military operations on the Continent. 'This had been followed by an extremely cold winter, with heavy snowfalls. He thought it not unlikely that Australia would have a wet, cold winter, with several good seasons following.
