V2 LAUNCHING SITES

SPITFIRE SQUADRON'S MISSION J

SPECIAL TACTICS BEARING FRUIT

(Ree." 11.30 a.m.) LONDON; Nov. 27. The Australian Air Force Spitfire ' squadron which is attacking V2 launching sites is part of a wing commanded by the New Zealander, Wing-com-mander Fitzgerald. " The dive-bombing of V2 launching sites is hampering the Germans in the use of their latest terror weapon and reducing the number launched," said the leader of the Australian squadron, Squadron-leader Ernest Esau, D.F.C., of Brisbane. ".We have worked'out our tactics now. 1 think wo have more or less the; right idea about it. Wo are keeping up a constant reconnaissance oyer the areas' from which these things are being launched, then divebombing known sites and following up with strafing. Increased anti-aircraft fire since the beginning of the attacks is an indication of their success. A constant watch must be kept for launching sites, which are highly mobile. Launchings might be made from woods, and even from towns."
