DEMAND FOR WAGE INCREASE REJECTED
WASHINGTON, November 20. The War. Labour Board rejected a Steel Union demand for a general wage increase of 17 cents an hour, which would have broken'general .pay increases to 15'per cent, above the January, 1941, level as. the keystone of the nation's wage stabilisation policy. However, the board directed the 86 steel companies involved in the dispute to pay premiums of from .4 to-G cents hourly, to. night workers and to grant severance pay and more liberal holidays.
