N.S.W. LOCAL BODY ELECTIONS

SYDNEY, November 27. , A bold bid for civic office is being made by the Australian Communist Party in the New South Wales local Government elections, to be held next Saturday. Campaigning for the elections began only this week. The Communists have ■ about 60 candidates for election to municipal and shire councils. In some areas the party will throw its weight behind certain candidates who do. not carry its banner, but whom it regards as "progressive." For the Sydney City Council the Communist Party has announced that it will support the official Labour candid dates with the object of defeating the Lang Labour Party candidates. The Lang Party is making strong efforts to secure tfie support of Sydney's industrial suburbs. Since 1930 the Civic lieform Party has had a majority over Labour on the City Council.
