OBITUARY
COLONEL ROBERT HUGHES (P.A.) WANGANUI, Nov. 8. Tiio death occurred to-day of Colonel Robert Hughes, a Maori War veteran. He had had a long association with the military life of Wanganui. He served first with the Wanagnui Volunteer Rifles, and succeeded to the command of that body in 1909. In 1911, when the Defence Act was passed, creating the Territorials. Lieutenantcolonel Hughes became the first commander of the Seventh WellingtonWest Coast Regiment. He held that post until 1919, when he handed over to Colonel (now Major-general) W. 11. Cunningham. ■ .'
