MESCAL COUNCIL CASE
MOTION TO STRIKE DOCTOR FROM ROLL (P.A.) AUCKLAND.. July 13. A motion for an order for removal of the name of George Brownlec lsdalc, medical practitioner, of Ngaruawahia, from the roll of medical practitioners in New Zealand, was heard before tho Chief Justice, Sir Michael Myers, in the Supreme Court to-day. The grounds of the motion were that Dr Isdalo had been guilty of infamous conduct in a professional respect in that' he did, without justification on medical grounds, 'artificially induce the termination of pregnancy in the case of nine women. The motion was moved by Mr V. IR. Meredith (with him, Mr K. C. Aekins) on behalf of the Medical Council, and was opposed by Mr G. Skelton on behalf of Isdale.
Prior to submission of the case by counsel, the Chief Justice said he knew nothing of the facts of the case. Two Auckland judges had had knowledge of aspects iii connection with previous actions, and it was thought that it would be suitable that the present application, being a new aspect, should be heard bv a judge who had no pre-know-ledgb oi the case. It was for that reason that he was hearing the application.
Several women gave evidenoe this morning, and the case is proceeding.
