TEMPORARY SOLUTION

HOUSING PROBLEM IN AUCKLAND ARMY CAMP FOR NEEDY FAMILIES (P.A.) AUCKLAND, July 12. Structural work to convert Western Springs camp, recently vacated by the Americans, into accommodation suitable for a transit camp for needy families awaiting permanent homes in Auckland has been commenced, and the mayor, Mr Allum, stated to-day that every effort was being made to have the camp ready for its new use with the least possible delay. He indicated that the alterations necessary were only those required to accommodate families instead of individuals. The intention was to provide for 40 families. The city council had a list of nearly 700 names of persons requiring accommodation.
