PRE-INVASION SOFTENING OF GUAM WASHINGTON, Juiy 10. Light surface units of the Pacific fleet shelled Guam on Saturday, damaging defence positions, buildings, and several small craft along the beach, says a Pacific fleet communique. Aircraft from the fast carrier task force attacked Guam and Rota on Sunday, hittiujj military objectives. One of our aircraft landed on the water, but a destroyer rescued the crew. Liberators bombed Truk atoll on Saturday, and other aircraft attacked Jaluit. Maloelap, and Wotje. The Pearl Harbour correspondent of the United Press points that the shelling of Guam and the intensified carrier plane attacks against tiie island last week follow, the .normal pre-in-vasion pattern. Invasion may be expected, since the conquest of Saipan has been completed.
