MAY BE OVER BY OCTOBER
BRISBANE, July 11. Allied military leaders are optimistic that the European war may end this year, even by October. _ This was the impression gained by Sir Keith Murdoch, chairman of directors of the ' Melbourne Herald' and its associated newspapers, during a trip abroad'. The prevalent opinion was that the Germau army would probably crack, he said. The two main reasons advanced to him iby Allied war leaders were: (1) The Germans were facing a four-front land offensive—in Russia, Italy, France, and Yugoslavia; (2) Nazi war production was inadequate, and Allied bombing continued to gut the enemy's industrial plants and) cripple his lines of communication.
