GERMANS SHORT OF PETROL
TANKER TRAINS DESTROYED BY BOMBING NEW YORK, July 10. Early in July a force of 450 Flying Fortresses destroyed three German tanker trains at •Gennevilliers containing sufficient jpetrol to supply the German forces on the Normandy front'for 15 days, says the 'New York Times' Stockholm correspondent, quoting a traveller from Paris. As a result, the Germans ceased issuing petrol for civilian purposes in France, and all civilian motor cars must be converted to charcoal burning before August 1. • Allied planes also destroyed _ most of a huge fleet of new lorries which the Germans held in reserve for the invasion. The remaining lorries are being converted to charcoal-burners. Railway transportation in France is almost completely disrupted, and only troop trains are running. The traveller spent 5 hours on the trip from Paris to Berlin, "which normally takes 22 hours.
