HUNDREDFOLD INCREASE
PARCEL TRAFFIC HANDLED (P.A.) WELLINGTON, May 11. The phenomenal increase in the volume of parcel traffic handled by the Post. Office since the outbreak of war was commented on by the PostmasterGeneral, Mr Webb, to-day. He said that in 1939 44,750 parcels weighing 172,9461 b had been posted overseas. Since then there had 'been a steady annual increase, until last year 1,556,760 parcels weighing 7,652,8001 b were despatched. Of the parcels posted, in 1943, 609,221 went to the forces in the Pacific and 523,630.t0 the forces in the Middle East; 103,836 to servicemen in Britain, 26,955 to servicemen in Canada, 20,561 to prisoners of war, a,nd 214.030t0 civilians in Britain.
