ST. KILDA AFFAIRS

BOROUGH COUNCIL MEETING At last night's meeting of the St. Kilda Borough Council, at which the mayor, Mr N. D. Anderson, presided, a letter was received from the King's High School Parents' Association asking that the name of Main Avenue should be changed to King's Avenue. There were 200 old boys of the school in the forces, stated the letter, and this would be a fitting memorial to them. The association would be willing to plant trees along the avenue. Cr Rutherford moved that the application be approved. Cr Longworth rose to a point of order. As the matter had been, discussed and decided at last meeting, it could not be brought up again for six months. He moved that the letter should be received, and that the council should co-operate with the association after the war in providing a suitable memorial. The present time was not opportune for planning memorials. Cr Brent, who seconded Cr Longworth's motion, said that the war must be won before memorials could be erected. The motion was carried. The financial statement presented by Cr Glue showed a credit balance in the bank

of £4,327 7s lid, after the payment of accounts amounting to £lB5 7s 6d. It was decided to defer the decision about a grant to the Dunedin-St. Kilda Patriotin Sub-zone funds until the year's estimates were being considered. Those present at the meeting were Cr 3 G. Glue, T. B. D. Roy, J. C. Cherry, B. Longworth, R. S. Brent, A. H. Finnie, P. J B. Rendel, J. W. Pearson, D. A. Teller, and W. Rutherford.
