CHAIRMAN OF FINANCE COMMITTEE 18TH PRESENTATION OF ESTIMATES In presenting the estimates and rating proposals for the current year at the meeting of the City Council iast night, the chairman of the Finance Committee (Cr W. B. Taverner) said it was the eighteenth occasion on which he had had the privilege of doing bo. " There may have been errors and omissions in those estimates, but I can say that we never budgeted for a greater income than we required or proposed to spend." he said. The Mayor (Mr A. H. Allen) congratulated Cr Taverner, and said the council had been fortunate to have the benefit of his knowledge of accountancy. The council approved of the estimates and adopted the rating proposal for a total rate o£j4s lOd in the £l. compared with Ss last jfear, made up of general rate, 2s 3d; water rate, 9d; hospital rate, 7d; drainage rate. Is 3d.
