MAORI CHILDREN DROWNED

LAKE WAIKARE TRAGEDY (P.A.) AUCKLAND, May 8. Three young Maori children, two sisters and their brother, were drowned at Te Kauwhata yesterday. They were Martha de Thierry, aged 12, John dn Thierry, aged 9 and Ruth de Thierry, aged 6. Tneir parents are Mr and Mrs George de Thierry, of Te Kauwhata. The three children were believed to have gone to Lake Waikare unaccompanied on Sunday morning, and tlioy were not missed until they failed to return for tea that night. The di*>covery of an upturned flat-bottomed boat on the shores of the lake, together with some children's clothing, led to fears for their safety. The lake was dragged to-day, and the three bodies were located closi* together about 30 yards from the shore.
