PIGEON RACING
The Dunedin Racing Pigeon Club flew its young bird Derby from Ashburton on Saturday. The station master liberated 120 birds, representing 18 lofts, in overcast weather. Rain was encountered at the home end. The birds made a good flight. and the winning bird flew the 153 miles in 3h 28min, at a velocity of 1,287 vards pe>' minute. Results:—'Mr M. Anderson's Celebration 1, Mr C. Napier's St. Clare and Mr T. Douglas's Shona (equal) 2, Mr W. Hargreaves's Weston Road 4. Mr A. Fraser's Wager 5. The club will fly a race from Christchurch, an air line distance of 201 miles, next Saturday.
