AIRMAN'S LIFE SAVED
SEVERED VEIN HELD BY COMPANION RUGBY, May G. Holding a severed jugular vein with one hand and adjusting his instruments with the other, a bombardier on a Fortress dropped his load and was then saved from death by a member of the crew. The story was told when the aircraft landed, and doctors relieved Lieutenant David M. Shoss, navigator of the plane, who held the severed vein all the way back from the target. The bombardier was wounded during the attack on the invasi6n coast of France.
